How to reach Taksim?

From Istanbul Airport (IST) to Taksim

Istanbul Airport is the main airport in Istanbul. It is located on the european side, in Arnavutkoy. Istanbul Airport is only 40 km or 25 miles away from Taksim Square. As the busiest airport in Turkey with many flights from and to many locations all over the world, Istanbul Airport connects Europe to Middle East.

To reach Taksim from Istanbul Airport there are several options. You may reach the city center Taksim by taxis, Havas shuttle service or metro.

Taxis are the most common way to reach Taksim and they will cost around 400 - 500 Turkish Liras. According to traffic in Istanbul your taxi ride to Taksim may take 40 to 50 minutes. The Havas airport busses is a very comfortable air-conditioned transportation service. From the Istanbul Airport they drive non-stop to Taksim. It costs 49 - 65 Turkish Liras per person. Please do not forget that busses are suggested if you have portable luggage only.

As your third option you would have to pick the urban tramway from Istanbul Airport to Aksaray direction.. You shall then transfer in Zeytinburnu Station to another tramway which will take you to Kabatas. Finally you will have to take funicular system to reach Taksim Square. Do not forget that switching may require dragging your suitcases up and down some stairs and you will have to buy a new token for every transfer you shall take. It make take around 75 minutes with the metro to reach Taksim from Istanbul Airport. Metro is not operational during night time.


From Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SAW) to Taksim

Sabiha Gokcen is the 2nd international airport in Istanbul. It is located on the Asian side, in Pendik very close to Kurtkoy. Sabiha Gokcen is 75 km or 46.6 miles away from Taksim Square.

To reach Taksim from Sabiha Gokcen International Airport public busses are the easiest way. Do not forget that they are available only at day time. The second option are the private white busses of Havas. They are leaving from the exit of the arrival terminal. Havas busses are operational 24 hours a day departing periodically.

Public busses will take you to 4. Levent in around 45 up to 90 minutes. If you travel with Havas it takes also around 45 up to 90 minutes to reach the first stop in Levent or the final destination Taksim. Havas cost is around 10 Turkish liras per person which is equal to approximately 5 euros or 7 US dollars.

All busses take you to 4. Levent or Taksim. As an option you may stop in Levent and walk down to the 4. Levent Metro Station to reach to Taksim if you have a portable luggage.

The public busses are less expensive and cost almost half the amount of the Havas where they seem to be the most cost-effective way to reach Taksim. Busses are not recommended if you have heavy luggage.
